Orthotics
Orthotics is a healthcare field dedicated to the custom fitting, design, and fabrication of braces or supports for those individuals who have suffered musculoskeletal conditions caused by injury, illness, or congenital anomalies. An orthosis is a device used to correct, support or replace musculoskeletal functions lost through physical impairment. Orthoses are commonly known as braces.
At AALOS we design, fabricate and fit each person with an orthosis that matches their specific needs. In providing the orthosis, we formulate its design, including the selection of materials and componentry. We make all necessary casts, measurements, model modifications, and layouts, perform fittings (including static and dynamic alignments), evaluate the orthosis on the patient, instruct the patient in its use, and consult with the patient’s physician.

mastectomy
Post-Mastectomy Care
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in American women. In the United States, one out of nine women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. But thanks to early detection and new medical advances, today there are over two million breast cancer survivors living in this country.
At Alabama Artificial Limb & Orthopedic Service, Inc. (AALOS), we know how important your health and appearance are to your overall well-being. Therefore, we take extra steps to assist our clients with your physical and psychological recovery through an extension of our company known as “The Boutique”.
A diagnosis of breast cancer and the decision to undergo a mastectomy is a very stressful experience in a woman’s life. Our professional staff members pride themselves on their ability to make clients feel at-ease. With your physician you will decide on the most-appropriate type of mastectomy, and whether your post-mastectomy needs would be better suited by reconstructive surgery or the fitting of breast forms. We welcome any questions you might have regarding the breast forms we fit. When prosthetic breast forms are indicated, we want to be there with you from the beginning of your treatment until release.
Our Abilities
For over sixty years, the same family has owned and operated Alabama Artificial Limb & Orthopedic Service, Inc. We are committed to providing the best in personal, professional care and the most advanced products available to our clients. “The Boutique” is fully licensed and accredited.
We provide private, comfortable consultations in an exclusively designed showroom at our main facility, as well as our Opelika location. When appropriate, our mastectomy fitters will even provide pre-surgical counseling and fitting for prosthetic breast forms that can be worn immediately following a mastectomy procedure.
Personalized Fitting & Fabrication
When it comes to our profession, most custom fitting and fabrication services take weeks or even months to deliver. However, at Alabama Artificial Limb & Orthopedic Service we perform 99 percent of our fabrications in our onsite state-of-the-art production lab. This means you get a completely customized fit with a very short wait for the end product.
With AALOS, you get something else you’ll find very important – a personalized look. We will work with you to design a piece that not only fits your body, but your personality as well. You’ll be surprised to see what we can do with colors, fabrics and other materials.
In most cases the entire AALOS fitting and fabrication process takes only a few days and sometimes we are even able to complete same-day orders. Not every provider can guarantee that and that is part of what makes us different.
Personalized Cosmetic Finishes
Cosmetic finish can mean different things to the many different people who wear a prosthesis. At AALOS, we know that people come in all shapes and sizes, and have vastly different personalities. We also know that a cosmetic finish is a personal decision. At AALOS we take that decision very seriously. Cosmetic finishes can be very natural in appearance, or can represent someone’s personality. We take pride in helping each client choose the finish that is best for them.
